WHY DO WE STAND TO SING

"Then some Levites
from Kohathites and Korahites stood up and praised the Lord, the God of Israel,
with very loud voice." (II Chronicles 20:19)

"After this I
looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from
every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in
front of the lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches
in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: "Salvation belongs to
our GOD, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb" (Revelations 7: 9-10)

WHY DO WE CLAP OUR HANDS

"Clap your hands,
all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy."(Psalm 47:1)

WHY DO WE LIFT OUR HANDS

"I will praise you
as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands." (Psalm 63:4)

"Lift up your hands
in the sanctuary and praise the Lord." (Psalm 134:2)

"I want men
everywhere to lift up holly hands in prayer, without anger or disputing."

WHY DO WE HAVE AUDIBLE PRAISE UNTO GOD

"Praise the Lord, O
my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name." (Psalm 103:1)

"Then a voice came
from the throne, saying: "Praise out God, all you his servants, you who
fear him, both small and great!" Then I heard what sounded like a great
multitude, like the roar of rushing water and like loud peals of thunder,
shouting: "Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns."

WHY DO WE SING IN TONGUES AND IN ENGLISH

"For if I pray in a
tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. So what shall I do? I will
pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my
spirit, but I will also sign with my mind." (1 Corinthians 14: 14-15)

WHY DO WE HAVE THIS TYPE OF WORSHIP

"Yet a time is
coming and has come when the true worshiper will worship the Father in spirit
and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is
spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth." (John
4:23-24)

WHY DO WE SING CHORUSES AS WELL AS HYMNS

"Do not get drunk
on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. Speak
to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in
your heart to the Lord." (Ephesians 5:18-19)

"Let the word of
Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all
wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in
your hearts to God." (Colossians 3:16)

WHY DO WE DANCE

"Let them praise
his name with dancing and make music to him with tambourine and harp."
(Psalm 149:3)

"Then maidens will
dance and be glad young men and old as well." (Jeremiah 31:13)

WHAT IS PROPHECY

"But everyone who
prophesies speaks to men for their strengthening, encouragement and
comfort." (1 Corinthians 14:3)

WHY DO WE PROPHESY

"Follow the way of
love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophesy."

WHY ARE MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS A PART OF THE
WORSHIP SERVICE

"Praise him with
the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with
tambourine and dancing, praise him with the strings and flute, praise him with
the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals." (Psalm 150:
3-5)

WHY DO WE HAVE SPEAKING WITH TONGUES AND
INTERPRETATIONS OF THOSE TONGUES IN THE CHURCH

"Therefore, my
brothers, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues."
(1Corinthians 14:39)

"Now to each one
the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is
given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of
knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one
Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophesy, to another the
ability to distinguish between spirits, to another the ability to speak in
different kinds of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit,
and he gives them to each man, just as he determines." (1 Corinthians 12:
7-11)

SOME SCRIPTURAL TERMINOLOGY

THE
ANOINTING
- The presence and the
work of the Holy Spirit in a person's life.

"As for you, the
anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to
teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that
anointing is real, not counterfeit - just as it has taught you, remain in
him." (1 John 2:27)

TO
MINISTER
- To serve or help
another by the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

"He has made us
competent as ministers of a new covenant - not of the letter but of the Spirit;
for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life." (II Corinthians 3:6)

ZION - The hill in the Old Testament (in Jerusalem)
where God's presence dwelt. God's presence is now in His Church (also called Mt
Zion).

"But you have come
to mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God. You have
come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, to the church of
the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven." (Hebrews 12: 22-23)

THE
GLORY
- The manifestation of
God's presence and splendor to the spiritual and physical faculties of man.

"And the priests
could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord
filled his temple." (1 Kings 8:11)
